What's wrong with being nice?

What would it be like if everybody was nice to one another? Would that be so bad? What if ... The next time you pass a homeless person who asks if you can spare a dime, you drop a twenty dollar bill into his hand? And that kid who comes to your door selling magazines? Buy some. You’d get hooked on those random acts of kindness. Then what? You could … Ask the office jerk out to lunch and pick up the check. Volunteer to help your church at the next paper drive. Call your mom! Be as nice to your spouse as you are to your friends. Smile at the salesperson when she’s having a bad day. Take the old lady across the street to her doctor’s appointment. Wait your turn. Try to understand the other guy’s point of view. Admit that your religion isn’t better than anybody else’s. Acknowledge that God doesn’t only bless America. And understand that being an American means you accept diversity and welcome dissent. And that people who don’t believe in your God or a God can still be decent and worthwhile. And don’t forget to vote. Think about it: There’s nothing wrong with being nice.

Mr Keedy, I agree, we all need to practice the golden rule a little bit. I see all of these bad things that happen in life and wonder what it would be like if people were nicer. I say we should try at least once a day to go out of our way to be nice to someone.
